The Homebody’s Guide to an Epic Valentine’s Day

Years ago I worked at P.F. Chang’s and the most dreaded day for us as employees was Valentine’s Day. People made reservations but others thought they could just show up and be seated. It sucked telling people they’d have to wait over an hour for a table and I remember looking at the women in their pretty dresses as they sat there anticipating a romantic dinner. In my mind, however, romantic dinners don’t involve being in a crowded restaurant. I prefer something more intimate that doesn’t require waiting in a room full og people. I’m the epitome of a homebody; it’s like pulling teeth getting me to leave home most nights.

Luckily I met my match and my spouse is asleep on the couch right now and has been since before 8 p.m.. Staying at home is not a problem for either of us! We haven’t had well-thought-out Valentine’s Day plans in the past, but this year I’m hoping to celebrate in an epic fashion. At home. Keep reading for a list of things you may want to try this weekend to do the same.

Make dinner and/or dessert together.

Cooking together can be, both, romantic and fun. Try following a new recipe or stick to one that’s a tried and true favorite. Consider making some chocolate covered strawberries, a yummy cake, or your partner’s favorite for dessert. They’ll surely appreciate the gesture.

Have a living room picnic

If you don’t feel like cooking, order take out and/or buy all of your favorite snacks. Lay out a blanket on the living room floor and have a picnic with your valentine. It’s a fun way to celebrate and spend time with one another.

#MassageParty

I don’t know about your life, but mine can get pretty stressful. A nice massage can turn your evening into a relaxing night to remember. Try purchasing a massage oil  if you don’t already have one. Bath & Body Works has great options and if there’s a LUSH near you, run don’t walk! Pick up a bath bomb to really help set the mood and don’t forget to light a few candles.

Make it a movie night

Netflix, Redbox, Blu-ray, DVD, cable… Whatever works for you. Pop some popcorn or and gather up your snacks, then cuddle up to watch a movie of your choice. If you’re more of a TV couple, try binge watching a new show. We recently discovered Showtime’s “Shameless”and can’t stop talking about it. Check it out if you haven’t already fallen in love with the Gallaghers.

Exchange Love Letters

Stuffed animals and chocolate candy seem like the go to items to get your mate on Valentine’s Day, but sometimes you gotta go old school and reach for the pen and paper. Remind them of why you fell in love or why you’re happy to have them as a valentine in a love letter. You two can exchange or read them aloud on Valentine’s Day as part of a bonding moment.

Is there anything I didn’t list that you’re planning to do to celebrate Valentine’s Day at home this year? Do share!

  1. What an awesome list. I’m glad Earl enjoys staying home as much as you.
I would definitely recommend checking out an all natural organic line of massage oils and pampering products without the toxic fragrances. Ooh So Jazzzie Organics makes a sensual massage oil that is heavenly. ? Can be found at http://www.jazzzierenterprises.com

Another thing to do at home is Couples Meditation and Yoga. ?

  2. My love and I have spent 10 Valentine’s together and this was our first one married. We have done a little of both in the past – stay in and go out – but THIS year…we stayed in. He cooked for me, and we fell asleep before 8pm. It was awesome!

  3. Although Valentines Day has past, this is totally relevant to any date night! I love this list because, like you, I am a homebody. One thing I like to do with my girlfriend is have a craft night with wine. Wine because its delicious and crafts because they are especially fun. Pick out something to paint on Pinterest and have at it! Also, you end up having something to remember that night forever or a gift for your parents on the next holiday 😉

    1. Oh my goodness, such great points! I’ve never had a craft night at home and will definitely do it soon! We’ll have margaritas while painting or doing a DIY project for the house… I can’t wait! Thanks so much for reading and commenting!
