Planning My Epic Birthday Celebration

Can you keep a secret? I’ll be turning 30 this year… Shhhh, don’t tell anyone!

My birthday is in June but a little early preparation never hurt anyone. I don’t usually do much to celebrate my birthday anymore, but this year will be pretty amazing because I’m going to make sure of it. #PlanYourOwnDangParty

My hubby is taking me on a trip for my actual birthday but I still want to do a small party to be able to include friends and family in the festivities. OK, let me be honest… The real reason I want a party is so I can have cake. A cute one, in particular. Naked cakes are my obsession these days so I’m hoping to have one to really get the party started. I’ve seen tons of DIY tutorials that make me want to get my Betty Crocker on, but chances are it’ll be wise for me to just hire a professional to make the cake of my dreams.

Next up on my party planning checklist are some super cute invitations from Paperless Post. I haven’t decided which one I like best but these are my top four so maybe you can help me decide. I love their selection of invitations for all occasions along with their stationary items that are perfect for the blogger who wants to stay stylishly organized.

Venue

As far as my venue goes, I want to stick to a place where I’d enjoy going on a regular basis. I’ve done a birthday dinner before and back in the day that was my thing! You know, cute dress and a long table full of loved ones, yummy food, and all that good stuff? I considered going to Eddie V’s because I love the food there but then I realized that after dinner is done, the party is too. I wanted a celebration that would allow me to take pictures or videotape some fun memories. Then it hit me. I don’t like going out and I spend most of my free time on my couch, but if I were to plan an outing it’d be at a karaoke bar. So it’s settled. I’m partying at a karaoke spot here in Houston this year and to avoid listening to strangers sing songs I don’t know, I’ll reserve a private room.

Decor

The decor is a major key for me yet I know I’m going to keep things super simple. I want my theme to have a metallic color for sure, either rose or yellow gold. Haven’t decided yet. But the focal point will be the number balloons I’m sure you’ve seen someplace recently. This Etsy store has them for $4 a piece and she’s based in Houston so shipping will be super quick. Oh and did I mention, she has them in rose gold? #Yassssss.  I also want my cake to be placed on a sequin tablecloth just for an added glam effect. But again, this will be at a karaoke bar so I don’t want to do too much.

Food

Karaoke bar.  Cute decor. That’s what I like,  that’s what I like (in my Bruno Mars voice). What more do I need to bring in the big 3-0? Oh yeah… Food! What’s a celebration without yummy food? I haven’t yet come up with a menu but I kinda want finger foods, kinda want to have fried fish and potatoes, but I also want tacos. Of course, I’ll want to add something healthy there like my husband’s famous fruit salad that has strawberries, kiwis, mangos, and whatever other fruit he decides to put in it on any given day.

So that’s what I have up my sleeve so far. What do you think? Is there something I’m forgetting to plan for? Do you have a birthday coming up, if so what are your plans?
