New Year, Same You… Be real with yourself!

Happy New Year!

It’s really 2017 and I’m not sure how to feel about it. I’m officially realizing that “time flies” is the truest statement ever and that I need to get my life together in the realest way. With the new year comes these resolutions that folks often disappoint themselves with and the “new year, new me” posts that promise a complete 180. I call BS.

I’m as me as I was a week ago and so is everyone else. There’s nothing wrong with setting goals and using the start of a new year as a time to reflect on how you wish to move forward, but I can’t with the “new” people on my social media timelines. The fabricated positivity and productivity kills me.  It’s been six days, geez Louise!

We don’t always have to document or post about the changes we’re making. Because when the updates stop, it’ll be safe to assume that you’re back to your old ways, right? Let’s be honest with ourselves and acknowledge that we could’ve been this better person in November and December if we wanted to be.

A new year won’t change who you are as a person. I guess it’s understandable to look at a new year as a fresh start, but isn’t every month the same thing? Or every week for that matter. Whatever changes we wish to make can be made at any time. Period.

I’m interested in hearing other people’s opinions on this topic. Am I right in my beliefs or am I just being a hater?
