Let’s Talk Money at #CubiclesToCocktails

Forbes and so many others have covered the topic of women negotiating their salaries and how we’re way less likely than men to do so. Although the thought of negotiating may be scary, it’s a must that we know our worth and learn to speak up for ourselves. It’s much easier said than done though.

I remember receiving job offers in the past and when the employer told me what the salary would be I just smiled and said “OK, that’s fine” because I was just so happy to be getting a job. Sadly, it never crossed my mind to attempt to negotiate because I was young and dumb. Sometimes I sit back and think about the money I could have made back in the day and how much better off I would’ve been with it. I can’t cry over spilled milk and I’ve learned from my mistakes and I’m so happy I’ve grown to learn to not only want more for myself but have the guts to ask for it.

Talking about money doesn’t come easy for a lot of us and that’s OK. Luckily, there’s an event here in Houston that will help us learn to have these talks and so much more. Next Thursday I’ll be hanging out on a work night… This is rare for me as I’m a homebody to the core and I don’t go anywhere unless I know it’ll be worthwhile and of course, there must be food involved. Guess what? #CubiclesToCocktails will not only be worthwhile, but it’ll have food and beverages too. Now that’s a win-win!

Tickets are $45 but if you bring a friend, you’ll both save a few coins. Event registration includes a networking soirée, cocktails, heavy hor d’oeuvres, an open forum with expert advice, and one-on-one career advice provided by Rock Career Development.

So will you be joining me at #CubiclesToCocktails? If so, let me know in the comments section and get your ticket here.
