August 2016 Favorites

I seriously can’t deal with the fact that it’s September. Like where has the time gone? It seems like summer just started…

This month I started teaching at a new school, got used to actually wearing my natural hair out in an afro as opposed to pinning it up all the time, and went on a cruise. All in all, I gotta say it was a good month (in my Ice Cube voice). I’ve used quite a few new products this month and I’ve become reattached to some old stuff too. Here are my favorite things from this month:

Black & White Striped Journal

I found this Markings by C.R. Gibson notebook at Walmart for under $10 and instantly fell in love. Black and white stripes with a hint of gold? Enough said. Not only is this notebook cute, but the quality is top-notch. Not surprising since the company has been in business for over 140 years. Even though it’s a spiral notebook, it’s sturdy and I’ve had no issues with it damaging or pages getting torn on accident

I also love that the cover has “thoughts and ideas” written on it to help inspire me to use the notebook for just that. I’ve had it about three weeks and have put so many creative thoughts into it… It’s amazing how a cute notebook can inspire you to use it.

Black Radiance’s True Complexion Contour Palette

This is probably the best affordable contour product for brown skin out on the market.I got the medium to dark palette from Target for $8 and have used it far more than my more expensive Anastasia Beverly Hills kits as of late. The highlight in this palette is to-die-for and it gives you that perfect golden glow. I even used it to do a friend’s makeup for her wedding and she looked great!

Ralph Lauren’s Polo Blue Eau de Parfum

I received a complimentary sample of this stuff thanks to Influenster and decided to pack it for my hubby when we went on a cruise. It’s hard to explain how good it smells, but just know that it makes you want to kiss your mate. It’s an ideal fragrance for a man and it’s perfect for every day use. Even though I didn’t use this fragrance, it made it to my fave’s list this month because I feel like I benefitted from sniffing it.

Kiehls Lip Balm

I use this EVERY single morning. This lip balm costs about $7 and contains lanolin and wheat germ oil, vitamin E and more. It’s especially great before applying a lip color. Since I’ve been using it, my lips haven’t been chapped or dry and this product is said to protect lips from the drying effects of cold weather so I can’t wait to see how is fares this winter season.

e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator

If you like wearing matte lipstick, you need to own e.l.f.’s lip exfoliator. It’s a rough scrub that perfectly exfoliates your lips. I’ve used similar products but nothing works quite like this one and you can’t beat the $3 price tag. I’m also a sucker for matte black anything so the packaging is an added perk.

Those are my top five favorite items from August. Have you tried any of these products? What were your favorite things this month?
